We’re not big enough for a proper CISO. Does vCISO work for us?
Yes — vCISO is designed for exactly this situation. You get the strategic guidance, board-level communication, and governance oversight of a senior CISO on a fractional basis. Most of our vCISO clients are 50–500 person organisations who need the capability without the full-time executive overhead.
How is this different from a managed security provider?
A managed security provider handles the technical operations — monitoring, alerting, response. We’re in the strategy layer above that: what should you invest in, is your current provider actually doing a good job, how do you explain risk to the board, what frameworks apply to you. Often we’re helping clients evaluate or hold their MSP accountable.
How do you decide which vendors to recommend?
We work with multiple vendors across price points and recommend the one that fits your environment. Our recommendations are based entirely on what suits you, not a default product, and we'll tell you our reasoning in writing.
Can you work with our existing MSP or internal IT team, or do you take over?
We work with them, not around them. Our job is oversight and direction — we don't replace the people doing day-to-day IT or security operations, and we're often the ones holding that provider accountable to what they've promised.
What happens if we get breached — is that covered under this engagement?
No. Consulting and vCISO work is strategic — reducing your risk and preparing you before something happens. If there's an active incident, that's handled separately, and we'll tell you plainly if that's what's needed rather than trying to fit it into a strategy conversation.
Do you report to our board, or just to IT?
Whichever the engagement calls for. Many clients have us present risk posture and roadmap directly to the board or leadership team, in language that isn't just technical — because that's usually the gap a vCISO is brought in to close.
We already have an ISO 27001 / Essential Eight project underway. Can you just pick that up?
Yes. We regularly step into work already started — reviewing what's in place, closing gaps, and taking it through certification or audit. You don't need to restart from scratch or explain everything twice.
