Operational Technology Cyber Security

OT security done by people who understand what’s on the other side of the firewall.

IT security firms bring IT security thinking to OT environments. They talk about confidentiality. OT operators care about uptime, safety, and continuity. CyberCaddy’s OT practice is led by practitioners with genuine operational technology experience — not IT tools retrofitted for OT.

“We’d had two IT security firms try to assess our SCADA environment and neither could get past the network diagrams. CyberCaddy had a meaningful technical conversation from day one.”

Where The Risk Actually Lives

Three risks most OT operators underestimate.

Industrial environments are the leading sector for ransomware. Average breach detection takes 200+ days. The entry vectors are predictable — and preventable.

⇧
IT-OT Boundary
The iDMZ is the highest-leverage boundary in OT security.
Most major OT incidents started with an IT-side compromise that crossed the boundary. Firewall rule drift, stale ACLs, and weak segmentation accumulate over time without active engineering oversight.
○
Operational Drift
Software and platforms drift quietly until they break at the worst possible time.
End-of-life operating systems. Unpatched SCADA. Unmanaged industrial PCs. Each is a slow-growing risk that only surfaces during incidents — when remediation is hardest.
⚠
Safety Convergence
A cyber incident affecting a Safety Instrumented System is a safety incident. Full stop.
Cyber and safety are no longer separable disciplines in OT. Treatments at the SIS layer require engineering rigour — not IT cyber tooling applied without understanding process consequence.

Our OT Services
Four engagements. All designed around operational continuity.
Every engagement is scoped to your environment, your safety requirements, and your uptime constraints — never off-the-shelf.
01
OT Security Assessment
Structured review against IEC 62443, AESCSF, and SOCI Act obligations. Maps your stack across all layers with specific operational implications, not generic checklists.

Covers 8 layers from Physical Plant to OT Cybersecurity Stack.
02
OT Architecture & iDMZ Design
Engineering-led design — zone and conduit modelling, iDMZ implementation, network segmentation, and secure remote access. IEC 62443-3-2 and 3-3 aligned.
IEC 62443-3-2/3-3Non-disruptive
The iDMZ is the highest-leverage boundary in OT. We engineer it properly.
03
OT Managed Detection & Response
Continuous OT threat monitoring — passive asset discovery, anomaly detection, vulnerability monitoring, and 24/7 incident response operated by people who understand process consequence.

Why CyberCaddy

OT security done by people who understand operations, not just IT.

Industrial environments don't tolerate the assumptions IT security makes. CyberCaddy secures operational technology with an understanding of safety, uptime, and the physical processes your systems control — without disrupting what keeps the plant running.

Purpose-built for OT and industrial control systems — not repurposed IT tooling

We work around uptime and safety constraints — assessment without disrupting operations

Common Questions
Straight answers.
We already have IT security. Doesn’t that cover OT?
Rarely. IT security tools are designed for environments where systems can be rebooted, patched, and isolated without stopping production. OT environments have real-time constraints, legacy systems that can’t be patched, and physical consequences for downtime. Applying IT security thinking to OT produces controls that either don’t work, or disrupt operations when you try to implement them.
Will your assessment require access to live operational systems?
Initial assessments use passive methods — documentation review, architecture analysis, and observation. Active testing against live OT systems is scoped carefully, scheduled during planned maintenance windows, and only conducted with explicit operational approval. Non-disruption is a design constraint, not an afterthought.
How does SOCI Act apply to us, and what do we need to demonstrate?
The Security of Critical Infrastructure Act requires operators to identify and manage cyber risks — with reporting obligations to the ASD and, in some cases, mandatory incident notification. We help you understand your obligations, map your current posture, and build an evidence-led compliance program that satisfies regulators without creating operational burden.
What is OT?
Operational Technology — the hardware and software that monitors and controls physical processes: SCADA systems, PLCs, industrial control systems, sensors on a production line, or the systems running a water treatment plant. IT manages data. OT runs physical equipment, which is why the stakes and constraints are different.
What's the actual risk if our OT environment gets compromised?
Unlike an IT breach, the consequence isn't just data loss — it's physical. A compromised control system can shut down production, damage equipment, or in critical infrastructure settings, create genuine safety risk. That's why OT security is assessed on operational and safety impact, not just data confidentiality.
Our OT systems are air-gapped. Are we still at risk?
Usually, "air-gapped" isn't as absolute as it sounds. USB drives, vendor laptops connecting for maintenance, and remote access tools set up for support all create paths in. Most OT compromises we see happen through one of these gaps, not a direct network breach.
Had an IT security firm look at your OT and come up short?
Tell us about your environment. If we’re the right fit, we’ll tell you why and scope the right engagement. If we’re not, we’ll point you in the right direction.
